Jasim Uddin is a very famous Bengali poet and writer. He is also known as Polli Kobi. He wrote poems mostly on rural life and people. That’s why he is given the honour of “Polli Kobi”.
He was born in Tambulkhana, Faridpur District in 1903. He completed his BA and MA in Bangla from University of Calcutta. He started writing from an early age. When he was a student, he wrote his most famous poem “Kabar” (The Grave). It’s about a person who lost his family members in different tragedies and he remembers those memories in the poem. This poem became so famous that it was added to the entrance Bengali textbook while he was still a student.
His another famous book is “Nokshi Kanthar Maath”. It’s also a great book from the poet and it is translated into many languages.
